we are transported to the other world, even if it is for a short period of
time. During this period, we forget the stark realities of life.

type of light reading is also essential otherwise we would remain like a frog
in the well. Books of travel and adventure infuse in us a spirit of adventure
and fearlessness. Reading such books also provides us an escape from the world.
Reading of fiction
or novels is also a pleasant pastime and provides us some recreation. Then we
have books of serious reading. Works of literature, philosophy, history etc.
Fall in this category. These books are evergreen and one can derive a great
pleasure while reading them. Books of literature provide food for thought for
all persons and in all ages. Such books give us an insight into the spiritual
and ethical value of life. They make our life noble and our outlook is widened.

However, some books should not form part of our
reading material. Cheap books corrupt our minds, especially those of the
youths. Many noble youngsters have been ruined because they developed a taste
for ‘bad books’. On the other hand, good books purify our thoughts and enrich
our vision. They also mould our character towards betterment. There fore, the
youth should read only ‘healthy’ books.
